Mein Foto der Woche habe ich auf dem Kasimedu Fischmarkt in Chennai aufgenommen. Der Markt ist einer der größten Handelsplätze für Fisch in Südindien – mit bis zu 200 Tonnen frischem Fisch täglich aus dem bengalischen Meer.

Ich war zunächst skeptisch, ob ich auf diesen Markt fahren möchte, da ich zum Einen eine ausgesprochen empfindliche Nase habe und zum Andern auch gar keinen Fisch mag. Aber meine Neugier war größer. Es war ähnlich, wie ich es mir vorgestellt habe, nur kleiner. Für Portrait Aufnahmen eignet sich der Markt weniger, aber um das Treiben zu fotografieren ist es ein wirklich toller Spot.

I took my photo of the week at the Kasimedu fish market in Chennai. The market is one of the largest fish trading hubs in South India, handling up to 200 tons of fresh fish daily from the Bay of Bengal.

At first, I was skeptical about visiting this market, as I have an extremely sensitive sense of smell and, on top of that, don’t like fish at all. But my curiosity have won. It was much like I had imagined, only smaller. The market isn’t ideal for portraits, but it is a fantastic spot for photographing the hustle and bustle.

Das Foto der Woche habe ich in Venedig aufgenommen. Es zeigt die Kirche San Giorgio Maggiore, aufgenommen in der Nähe des Dogen Palastes.

Ich habe das Foto mit einer kurzen Langzeitbelichtung geschossen, um die Bewegung der Gondeln einzufangen.

This weeks photo was taken in Venice. It shows the church San Giorgio Maggiore from a point near the Palazzo Ducale.

I did a short long exposure to capture the movement of the gondolas.

Diese Woche habe ich einige Tage in Rio de Janeiro in Brasilien verbracht. Die meiste Zeit hat es leider geregnet. Am letzten Abend lockerte die Bewölkung auf und an meinem Abflugtag war es sonnig und sehr angenehm warm. Das Foto zeigt einen Abschnitt der Copacabana.

Aufgenommen wurde das Foto vom 39. Stock meines Hotels, dort befindet sich ein Pool- und Bar/Loungebereich mit einer tollen Sicht auf die Copacabana, den Zuckerhut und die Christus-Statue.

I spent a few days in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, this week. Unfortunately, it rained most of the time. On the last evening, the clouds cleared, and on the day of my departure, it was sunny and pleasantly warm. The photo shows a section of Copacabana.

The photo was taken from the 39th floor of my hotel, there is a pool and bar/lounge area with a great view of the Copacabana, Sugarloaf Mountain, and the Christ the Redeemer statue.

Mein Foto der Woche kommt aus Kapstadt, Sūdafrika. Zwischenzeitlich ist es schon zu meiner Tradition geworden, nach der Landung kurz zu schlafen und dann auf den Lions Head zu wandern. Der Aufstieg dauert ca 1,5 Stunden.

Belohnt wird man mit großartigen 360° Aussicht auf Kapstadt , den Tafelberg National Park und das Meer.

My photo of the week comes from Cape Town, South Africa. It’s become a tradition of mine to take a short nap after landing and then hike up Lion’s Head. The climb takes about 1.5 hours.

You will be rewarded with magnificent 360° views of Cape Town, Table Mountain National Park and the sea.

Das Foto der Woche entstand in New York City. Ich hatte viel vor und hatte geplant, nach der Landung nach Coney Island zu fahren, da ich den Charme der alten Fahrgeschäfte und die Strandpromenade zum Fotografieren ganz toll finde. Leider sagte die Wettervorhersage starker Regen und heftige Gewitter voraus. Also habe ich mich entschlossen, in Manhattan zu bleiben. Tatsächlich habe ich ca. 1 Stunde trocken verbracht, bevor es wie vorhergesagt zur Sache ging.

Diese Woche habe ich tatsächlich wenig fotografiert. Neben einer Auftragsarbeit habe ich die Tage in der klimatisierten Wohnung verbracht und war kurz in Nairobi, einen Flugeinsatz, den ich im Rahmen einer Bereitschaft bekommen habe.

Das Foto der Woche ist in Äquatorialguinea entstanden. Ich habe nicht viel gesehen vom Land, da es touristisch wenig erschlossen ist und es auch mehrere Dinge zu beachten gibt, wenn man sich im Land bewegt. Vor einigen Jahren habe ich mal ein Waisenhaus hier besucht und Sach- und Geldspenden gebracht. Die hygienischen Verhältnisse waren nicht die Besten, aber die Kinder waren sehr dankbar für die Abwechslung. Im Rahmen dieses Ausfluges war ich damals noch ein wenig in der unmittelbaren Umgebung unterwegs und habe die Menschen als sehr freundlich und warmherzig empfunden.

Zudem gibt es noch Wasserfälle und Urwald auf der sehr grünen Insel, die ich mir gerne mal in der Trockenzeit anschauen möchte.

Leider besteht hier ein ganzjähriges hohes Malaria-Risiko, 99% der Fälle sind die Malaria Tropica. Neben einem guten Müclenschutz nehme ich zusätzlich eine Malaria Prophylaxe ein, um bestmöglich geschützt zu sein.

Malabo, die ehemalige Hauptstadt, liegt auf der Insel Bioko. Die neue Hauptstadt liegt auf dem Festland und heißt Ciudad de la Paz.

Äquatorialguinea ist das einzige Land in Afrika, das Spanisch als Amtssprache besitzt, daneben gelten französisch und portugiesisch ebenfalls als Amtsprachen.

This week’s photo was taken in Equatorial Guinea. I didn’t see much of the country, as it’s not very developed for tourism and there are several things to keep in mind when traveling there. A few years ago, I visited an orphanage here and brought donations of supplies and money. The hygiene wasn’t the best, but the children were very grateful to spend time with us. During that trip, I also explored the surroundings a bit and found the people to be very friendly and warm-hearted.

In addition, there are waterfalls and rainforest on the very green island, which I would like to visit one day during the dry season.

Unfortunately, there is a high risk of malaria here year-round; 99% of the cases are malaria tropica. In addition to good mosquito protection sprays, I also take malaria prophylaxis to be as protected as possible.

Malabo, the former capital, is located on the island of Bioko. The new capital is on the mainland and is called Ciudad de la Paz.

Equatorial Guinea is the only country in Africa that has Spanish as its official language; French and Portuguese are also official languages.

Das Foto der Woche wurde in Los Angeles aufgenommen. Es zeigt zwei Menschen aus der Glaubensgemeinschaft der Amischen auf dem Walk of Fame in Hollywood. Die Amischen leben hauptsächlich in den USA und Kanada und stammen von Einwanderern aus der Schweiz und Süddeutschland ab.

Die meisten Amischen, die nach der alten Glaubensordnung leben, lehnen moderne Technologien ab, sie nutzen Pferdekutschen statt Autos, nutzen keinen Strom aus dem öffentlichen Netz, sie tragen schlichte Kleidung und leben in ihrer Gemeinschaft. Der tiefe christliche Glaube verbietet Ihnen Scheidungen und Homosexualität ist strengstens verboten.

The photo of the week was taken in Los Angeles. It shows two members of the Amish community on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Amish live primarily in the USA and Canada and are descended from immigrants from Switzerland and southern Germany.

Most Amish who live according to the old order reject modern technologies; they use horse-drawn carriages instead of cars and do not use electricity from the public network, while wearing simple clothing and living within their community. Their deep Christian faith forbids divorce, and homosexuality is strictly prohibited.
