Photo of the Week
42/26

I took this week’s photo in Berlin. It shows the Palazzo Ottagonale in the Quarter Schützenstrasse in Berlin-Mitte. To give the image a distinctive look, I removed the sky – which had been covered in many small clouds – and replaced it with a simple blue background. And, since I have a bit of a weakness for „look-up“ shots with added airplanes, I also added an airplane to the center of the frame during post-processing.
I am often asked about the significance of the airplane, as I now have many such photos on my Instagram profile, “Khun_Aleks.” To me, these urban frames – combined with an airplane (or, at times, birds in flight) – serve as a symbol of freedom for me: escaping the city, discovering new things, taking flight, and breaking free from the monotonous, repetitive way of everyday life.
You can find more photos of this kind on my Instagram Profile and under #theaestheticofurbanenvironments“, including this same photo with the original sky.
