Mein Foto der Woche entstand am Lindesnes Fyr. Lindesnes Fyr ist eine Leuchtturm Anlage am sĂĽdlichsten Ort des Festlandes von Norwegen. 1655 wurde hier Norwegens erstes Leuchtfeuer angezĂĽndet.

My photo of the week was taken at Lindesnes Lighthouse. Lindesnes Lighthouse is a lighthouse complex located at the southernmost point of mainland Norway. Norway’s first lighthouse was lit here in 1655.

Mein Foto dieser Woche habe ich in der Altstadt von Hyderabad aufgenommen. Ich liebe Menschen, deren Gesichter Geschichten erzählen.
Dieser Mann saĂź an der StraĂźe, in seinem Gedanken verloren und dennoch mit wachen Augen. Ich habe schon viele Fotos gemacht, auf denen die Menschen direkt in die Linse schauen, und dennoch mag ich auch die Fotos, auf denen die Menschen nicht in die Kamera schauen. Ich schau mir solche Fotos an und habe das GefĂĽhl, dabei zu sein, ohne dass man als Fotograf die Aufmerksamkeit bindet. Die Menschen wirken oft authentischer und weniger gestellt.
Eine Möglichkeit, solche Fotos zu bekommen ist, wenn man mit einem anderen Fotografen unterwegs ist. Während er sich unterhält und vielleicht ein frontales Foto macht und man dann eben unbemerkt sein Bild von der Seite schiesst. Eine andere Möglichkeit ist, das Bild unbemerkt aus der Hüfte aufzunehmen. Hier besteht allerdings die Gefahr, nicht alles auf das Bild zu bekommen.

I took my photo this week in Hyderabad’s old town. I love people whose faces tell stories.
This man was sitting next to a road, lost in his thoughts, but with alerted eyes. I’ve taken many photos where people look directly into the lens, but I also like photos where people aren’t looking at the camera. I look at such photos and feel like I’m there, without the photographer taking to much attention. The people often seem more authentic and less staged.
One way to get such photos is to be out with another photographer. While they’re chatting, perhaps they’re taking a head-on shot, and then you discreetly take your shot from the side. Another option is to discreetly shoot from the hip. However, there’s a risk of not getting everything in the frame.

Auf meiner letzten Reise war ich in Nairobi, Kenia und es ist mir wirklich schwer gefallen, mein Lieblingsbild zu finden, welches das Foto der Woche geworden ist. Am Ende habe ich mich für dieses Foto des Löwen entschieden, da ich etwas zur Entstehung des Bildes erzählen will.
Der Nationalpark liegt am Stadtrand Nairobis ca. 7 km vom Zentrum entfernt und man kann in diesem Park sehr gut sehen, wie nah Stadt und Infrastruktur und die Natur zusammen leben: die Flugzeuge, die am internationalen Flughafen landen.ĂĽberfliegen den Park in niedriger Höhe, die Schnellzug-Trasse Nairobi – Mombase fĂĽhrt erhöht durch den Park und die Skyline Nairobis sieht man häufig im Hintergrund und oft kann man Tiere in Kombination mit der Skyline fotografieren.
Im Park gibt es ein großes Artenreichtum, Elefanten sind allerdings nicht zu finden, da der Park hierzu zu klein ist. Es gibt über 80 Arten von Säugetieren und über 500 Vogelarten.
Die Löwen scheinen sehr an die vielen Safari Autos gewöhnt zu sein und ignorieren diese komplett. An diesem Morgen waren die Löwen umringt von vielen Autos – es ist schwer zu sagen, ob die Löwen den Autos so nahe kamen oder die Autos den Löwen, denn die Tiere lagen inmitten eines Weges.
Dieser Löwe war mit zwei Weibchen dort gelegen und als ein landendes Flugzeug über den Park geflogen ist, hat er das Geräusch verfolgt und nach oben geschaut. Ich hatte Glück, genau in diesem Moment die Kamera mit einem Teleobjektiv bereit gehabt zu haben.

On my last trip, I was in Nairobi, Kenya, and I had a really hard time choosing my favorite photo to feature as Photo of the Week. In the end, I chose this photo of the lion because I wanted to tell how the picture came about.
The national park is located on the outskirts of Nairobi, about 7 km from the city center, and in this park you can clearly see how closely the city, its infrastructure, and nature live together: the planes landing at the international airport fly over the park at low altitude, the high-speed train line Nairobi-Mombase runs elevated through the park, and the Nairobi skyline can often be seen in the background, and you can take photos of animals in combination with the skyline.
The park is home to a great diversity of species, although elephants cannot be found here. There are over 80 species of mammals and over 500 species of birds.
The lions seem to be very used to the many safari vehicles and completely ignore them. This morning, the lions were surrounded by many cars—it’s hard to tell whether the lions were getting so close to the cars or the cars to the lions, as the animals were lying in the middle of a road.
This lion was lying there with two females and when a landing plane flew over the park, he followed the sound and looked up to the sky. I was lucky to have my camera with a tele lens ready at this moment.

Das Foto der Woche habe ich in Bogotá aufgenommen. Der Cerro de Monserrate ist ein Berg in Kolumbiens Hauptstadt mit einer Höhe von 3.152 Metern. Neben einer Kirche, Cafés, Restaurants und Souvenir-Shops gibt es seit einigen Jahren auch einen Pfad für Vogelbeobachtungen, den ich eigentlich immer besuche, wenn ich in der Stadt bin. Der Pfad heißt „El Paramuno Trail“ und es gibt mehr als 115 Vogelarten, darunter 15 verschiedene Kolibri-Arten.
Bei meinem Besuch diese Woche habe ich nur wenige Kolibris gesehen und das Wetter war auch nicht optimal. Immer wieder hat es leicht geregnet und das Licht war nicht perfekt zum Fotografieren, sodass ich die ISO meiner Kamera recht hoch stellen musste, was ein wenig zu Bildrauschen fĂĽhrt. Dennoch sind mir einige Bilder gelungen, mit denen ich doch sehr zufrieden bin.
Auf dem Foto ist ein weiblicher Rosenbauch-Kolibri (Campylopterus Curvipennis) zu sehen. Diese Kolibris sind ca 12 cm groß und wiegen zwischen 6,0 Gramm bis 7,6 Gramm und lebt in Höhen von 1.900 Metern bis 3.300 Metern.
Kolibris schlagen im Flug ihre Flügel zwischen 40 und 50 Mal pro Sekunde, das Herz schläft zwischen 400 und 500 Mal pro Minute und ihre Atemfrequenz liegt bei 250 Zügen pro Minute. Kolibris sind richtige Flugakrobaten und können nicht nur sehr schnell (bis zu 98 km/h) fliegen, sondern auch schweben und rückwärts fliegen.

I took this week’s photo in Bogotá. Cerro de Monserrate is a mountain in Colombia’s capital, reaching a height of 3,152 meters. In addition to a church, cafĂ©s, restaurants and souvenir shops there’s also a birdwatching trail since a few years, which I always visit when I’m in the city. The trail is called “El Paramuno Trail,” and there are more than 115 bird species, including 15 different hummingbird species.
During my visit this week, I saw only a few hummingbirds and the weather wasn’t ideal either. There was light rain from time to time, and the light wasn’t best for photography, so I had to set my camera’s ISO quite high, which resulted in a bit of image noise. Nevertheless, I managed to get a few pictures that I’m very happy with.
The photo shows a female Rose-bellied Hummingbird (Campylopterus Curvipennis). These hummingbirds are approximately 12 cm long and weigh between 6.0 and 7.6 grams, and these species live at altitudes of 1,900 and 3,300 meters.
Hummingbirds beat their wings between 40 and 50 times per second while flying, their heart rate is between 400 and 500 beats per minute, and their respiratory rate is 250 breaths per minute. Hummingbirds are true aerial acrobats and can not only fly very fast (up to 98 km/h), but also hover and fly backward.

Mein Foto der Woche ist in Frankfurt entstanden. Vor einigen Jahren habe ich auf Instagram den hashtag „theaestheticofurbanenvironments für mich und diese Art von Fotos verwendet, um eine kleine Sammlung anzulegen. Zwischenzeitlich habe ich über fünfzig Bilder dieser Art erstellt.
„Wie lange hast du gewartet, bis das Flugzeug genau drüber geflogen ist?“ ist die häufigste Frage zu den Bildern. Die Antwort ist: überhaupt nicht, das Flugzeug wird nachträglich ins Bild gesetzt.
„Das ist ja voll fake“ – ist es das? Ich sehe Fotografie als Kunstform, und in der Kunst ist vieles erlaubt.
Ich mag diese Bilder sehr. Der Wechsel der Perspektive, die Symmetrien und der dadurch entstehende Rahmen machen für mich einen guten Mix aus Architektur- und Streetfotografie. Das Flugzeug (oder Wolken oder Vögel) Verleihen dem Bild noch zusätzliche Tiefe.

My photo of the week was taken in Frankfurt. A few years ago, I started using the hashtag “theaestheticofurbanenvironments” on Instagram to create a small collection for myself and this type of photos. I’ve created over fifty images of this kind since then.
“How long did you wait until the plane flew right over?” is the most common question about the images. The answer is: not a single minute; the plane is added to the image afterward.
“That’s totally fake” – is it? I see photography as an art form, and in art, a lot is allowed.
I really like these kind of images. The change in perspective, the symmetry, and the natural framing make a good mix of architecture and street photography. The airplane (or clouds, or birds) add even more depth to the image.

Das Foto der Woche entstand gestern bei einem Foto Shooting im Rahmen eines freien Projektes. Hier arbeiten Models, Fotografen, Designer und Stylisten zusammen. In der Regel erhält keiner der Teilnehmenden ein Honorar für seine Arbeit und die Photos dürfen dann frei verwendet werden. Gerade zum Aufbau eines Portfolios, zu Trainingszwecken und zum Erweitern der persönlichen Referenzliste eignen sich freie Projekte sehr gut.

Mein Foto der Woche entstand in Istanbul. Ich war dort das erste Mal und bei einem Spaziergang durch die Stadt und ĂĽber die Galata BrĂĽcke entdeckte ich diesen Treppenaufgang. Licht und Schatten haben einen interessanten Kontrast geschaffen.
Oft probieren wir – besonders wenn wir Architektur fotografieren – keine Personen im Bild zu haben. Auf manchen Fotos machen Menschen das Bild erst interessant, sie können Leben in ein ansonsten steriles Bild bringen, sie können Dimensionen vermitteln oder durch die Kleidung farbliche Kontraste schaffen.

I took my photo of the week in Istanbul, Turkey. It was my first time in the city and during a walk through the city and across the Galata Bridge I saw this stair case. The sun light and the shadow created a nice contrast.
We often try to- especially when shooting architecture – to avoid having people in the photo. But there are shots when people are helping to make the image interesting: they can bring a photo to live that would be sterile, they can show dimensions and sizes of creating contrasts of colors through their clothes.

Nachdem ich viele Bilder aus Chennai mitgebracht habe, die mir persönlich gut gefallen, kommt mein Foto der Woche nochmals aus Indien.
Hier habe ich probiert, Bewegungen im Bild festzuhalten. Durch eine längere Belichtungszeit verschwimmen die bewegten Objekte – idealerweise sorgt ein Stativ dafĂĽr, dass das Bild nicht verwackelt, ich habe allerdings mangels Statives aus der Hand fotografiert. Die kräftigen Farben der Rikschas und des Saris erzeugen eine zusätzliche Dynamik.
Im kleinen Bild unten habe ich eine andere Methode der Bewegungsunschärfe gewählt. Hier wird die das bewegte Objekt fokussiert und die Kamera „verfolgt“ es. Der Hintergrund wird dadurch verschwommen und je schneller die Kamera mitbewegt wird, desto unschärfer wird der Hintergrund.

After bringing back many pictures from Chennai that I personally like, my photo of the week comes again from India.
Here, I tried to capture movement in the image. A longer exposure time blurs the moving objects – in the best case, a tripod ensures the camera stands staple and no further blurring is added, but I shot handheld as I didn’t have my tripod with me. The vibrant colors of the rickshaws and the sari create an additional dynamic effect.
In the small image below, I used a different motion blur method. Here, the moving object is focused on and the camera “tracks” it. This blurs the background and depending on the speed of the movement of the camera the background is more or less blurred.

Mein Foto der Woche kommt aus Chennai. Der Koyambedu Markt ist einer der größten Märkte für Obst, Gemüse und Blumen in Asien. Der Markt-Komplex erstreckt sich über 1.19 km2 und beherbergt über 3.100 Stände und Geschäfte. Sowohl für die Street-, als auch für die Portraitfotografie gibt es eine unendliche Möglichkeit für Motive und viele Menschen hier haben sich gefreut, fotografiert worden zu sein.
Ich habe mich fĂĽr dieses Bild entschieden, da ich die riesigen Bananenstauden, die dort auf den Schultern getragen werden, besonders toll und spannend zu fotografieren finde.

My photo of the week comes from Chennai. The Koyambedu Market is one of the largest fruit, vegetable, and flower markets in Asia. The market complex covers 1.19 km² and houses over 3,100 stalls and shops. There are endless possibilities for both – street and portrait photography, and many people here were happy to have their photo taken.
I chose this picture because I find the huge banana plants that are carried on the shoulders beautiful and exciting to photograph.

Mein Foto der Woche ist in Mumbai entstanden. Der Stadtteil Bandra ist die Heimat von Bollywood und das Bollywood Art Project hat es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, Wände mit Gaffiti und Kunst zu gestalten. Viele Wände zeigen bekannte indische Schauspieler.
Auf dieser Wand ist die Schauspielerin Asha Parekh zu sehen, sie wurde 1942 geboren und hat ĂĽber 90 Filme gedreht.
Da in Mumbai aktuell die Monsun-Zeit ist, regnet es sehr viel und stark, deshalb konnte ich leider nicht so viele Wände anschauen, wie ich gehofft habe. Aber Mumbai steht ja öfters auf meinem Dienstplan und ich werde einfach wieder einmal herkommen .

My photo of the week was taken in Mumbai. The Bandra district is the home of Bollywood, and the Bollywood Art Project is decorating walls with graffiti and murals. Many walls feature famous Indian actors.
On this wall painted is the actress Asha Parekh. She was born in 1942 and was performing on more than 90 movies.
Since it’s currently monsoon season in Mumbai, it’s raining heavily, so unfortunately I haven’t been able to see as many walls as I’d hoped. But Mumbai is often on my schedule and I will be back another time.
