Das Foto der Woche entstand gestern in Mumbai. Der Stadteil Worli Koliwada oder Worli Village ist eines der ältesten Fischer Dörfer in Mumbai. Es grenzt an den Stadtteil Worli mit seinen modernen Hochhäusern und teuren Geschäften.

Worli Village selbst besteht aus kleineren bunten Häusern und geschwungenen und verwinkelten Gassen, von der Küste sieht man zahlreiche alte Fischerboote und der Blick auf die Sea Link, eine moderne lange Brücke, welche die Stadtteile Worli und Bandra verbindet, ist allgegenwärtig. Auf der anderen Seite des Stadtteils sieht man die Hochhäuser und die Lichter der Stadt von Mumbai.

Während die Gassen und Straßen im Dorf sauber sind und ich viele Bewohner die Wege fegen gesehen habe, türmt sich entlang des Ufers der Müll. Plastiktüten und Unrat verdecken zum Teil den ganze Boden, dazwischen rennen streunende Katzen und Hunde,und an den wenigen nicht oder weniger zugemüllten Plätzen wird Cricket gespielt.

Das Foto zeigt einen Barber, der Männer rasiert. Mit Blick aufs Meer zum Sonnenuntergang. Ich finde es sehr kontrovers zu sehen, wie das Bedürfnis nach Gepflegtheit und der Wunsch nach ordentlichem Aussehen der kompletten Verschmutzung des Lebensraums gegenüber steht.

The Photo of the Week was taken yesterday in Mumbai. The neighborhood of Worli Koliwada—or Worli Village—is one of the oldest fishing colonies in Mumbai. It borders the district of Worli with its modern high-rises and expensive shops.

Worli Village itself consists of small, colorful houses and winding lanes; from the coast, you can see numerous old fishing boats, and the view of the Sea Link—a long, modern bridge connecting the districts of Worli and Bandra—is ever-present. The background towards the land are the skyscrapers and city light of Mumbai.

While the alleys and streets in the village are clean—and I have seen many residents sweeping the paths—garbage piles up along the waterfront. Plastic bags and refuse partially cover the entire ground; stray cats and dogs stray through the debris, and in the few spots that are less or not littered cricket is being played.

The photo shows a barber shaving a man, with a view of the sea at sunset. I find it deeply disturbing to see how the need for grooming—and the desire for a tidy appearance—stands in contrast to the utter pollution of the environment.
