Nachdem ich schon mehrere Male in Peking, Nanjing und Hongkong gewesen bin, war ich nun das erste Mal in Shanghai. Hier leben über 29 Millionen Menschen und nach Tokyo und Neu Delhi ist es die drittgrößte Stadt weltweit.
Gefallen hat mir der Kontrast von kolonialen Gebäuden am Bund und den glitzernden Wolkenkratzern in Pudong. Weniger gefallen hat mir, dass nahezu jeder auf der Straße unentwegt in sein Handy schaut und eine Fortbewegung in einem annähernd “normalen” Tempo nicht möglich ist.

I have been to Beijing, Nanjing and Hong Kong several times, but this week was my first time in Shanghai. More than 29 million people are living here, and after Tokyo and New Delhi, it’s the third largest city in the world.
What I like is the contrast of the old colonial style buildings at the Bund and the shiny skyscrapers of Pudong. What I like less is the fact that everyone walking anywhere is looking at his/hers mobile phone and getting somewhere in a “normal” speed is not possible.
Mein Foto der Woche wurde in Lissabon aufgenommen. Auf meinem Morgenspaziergang sah ich das rosafarbene Haus mit der rosa und lila Wäsche, die zum trocken aufgehängt wurde. Alles, was ich dazu noch wollte, war eine der typischen gelben Trams, die durch die engen Straßen von Alfama fährt. Die erste Tram war mit Werbung beklebt, bei der nächsten waren zu viele Menschen im Bild. Bis dann alles so war, wie ich es brauchte, war eine halbe Stunde Zeit vergangen, aber dank Temperaturen um die 20° C und Sonnenschein war das kein Problem.

My photo of the week was captured this morning in Lisbon. On a morning walk I saw this beautiful rose colored building with the rose and purple laundry outside to get dry. All I wanted to have in this photo was one of the typical yellow trams that is driving through the narrow streets of Alfama. The first tram that I saw was covered with advertisement, on the next shot were too many people. Until everything was the way I wanted it thirty minutes passed by. But because of the sunshine and temperatures around 20° C it wasn’t a problem at all.
Das Foto der Woche entstand in der Stadtbibliothek in Stuttgart, wenige Schritte vom Bahnhof entfernt. Als mein Zug mit einer großen Verspätung abfahren sollte, habe ich die Zeit genutzt, dort einige Fotos zu schießen. Für mich ist die Stadtbibliothek eines der spannendsten Gebäude in Stuttgart zum Fotografieren, da mit die strengen Linien und Formen gut gefallen. Es ist gar nicht so leicht, Perspektiven zu finden, die nicht schon unzählige Male fotografiert worden sind, aber das Rad muss ja nicht immer neu erfunden werden.

My photo of the week was taken in Stuttgarts public library which is located just a short walk away from the train station. My train had a huge delay and so I took the time to take some photos there. In my opinion the library is one of the most exciting building to take some photos. I like the clean look and the lines. It’s not that easy to take a photo that was not taken uncountable times before – but for me it doesn’t matter at all.
Mein Foto der Woche habe ich in Neu Delhi aufgenommen. Das Holi Festival ist einer der wichtigsten Feiertage in Indien. Der Ursprung des Festes liegt in der hinduistischen Mythologie und feiert die göttliche Liebe zwischen Krishna und Radha. Zeitgleich wird der Frühling gefeiert und an diesem Tag feiern die Menschen unabhängig ihrer Kaste, Religion, ihres Geschlechts , Alters oder Status zusammen.

I took my photo of the week in New Delhi. The Holi Festival is one of the most important holidays in India. The festival originates from Hindu mythology and celebrates the divine love between Krishna and Radha. It also celebrates the beginning of spring, and on this day, people celebrate together regardless of their caste, religion, gender, age, or status.

Gestern war die Vernissage und der Auftakt des Fotowettbewerbes des Swiss Photo Club. Es gibt wirklich viele tolle und inspirierende Fotos und mir persönlich fiel es schwer, die drei besten zu wählen.

Exhibition Swiss Photo Club
The Vernissage and the beginning of the competition of the Swiss Photo Club were starting yesterday. There are shown so many beautiful and inspiring photos – it was quite hard to pick my 3 favorites.

Hongkong war die erste Reise, welche ich mit 18 Jahren im Sommer 1996 unternommen habe. Damals war Hongkong noch britisch, der legendäre Flughafen Kai Tak Airport noch in Betrieb und die ganze Reise eine Erfahrung, die heutzutage nicht mehr genauso zu erleben wäre.
Jetzt klinge ich wie ein alter Mann, aber alleine die Buchung eines Gästehauses erfolgte mittels eines Briefes, den man schon lange vor Abflug an eine Empfehlung in einem Reiseführer geschickt hatte, die Buchungsbestätigung kam ebenfalls auf dem Postweg und so machte man sich auf ins Ungewisse in dem blinden Vertrauen, schon was ordentliches gebucht zu haben. Nach wirklich stundenlanger Suche habe ich damals mein Gästehaus gefunden um dann in einem fensterlosen, winzigen Zimmer unterzukommen….
Diese Woche war ich beruflich da und diese Feuerwehr Station habe ich schon mehrfach im Internet gesehen und habe mir fest vorgenommen, selbst ein Bild zu machen. Mission erfolgreich beendet!

My first solo trip brought me to Hong Kong in 1996. At that time I was just 18 years old, Hong Kong was British and the legendary Kai Tak Airport was still in use and today the experience of this journey could not be forced to do be repeated again.
Now I sound like an old man – but booking a guesthouse at this time I was sending a letter to ask for available rooms and making a reservation long before the trip started and also the conformation was sent by mail. You relied on recommendations from travel guide books without knowing how the rooms were equipped and where to find the guesthouse. Once arrived I was searching literally for hours for the room in a typical skyscraper to find that accommodation and got a tiny room with no window….
This week I went to Hong Kong on a work trip. I saw this fire station many times on the internet and wanted to take a photo by myself. Mission accomplished!
