Special Edition
Diese Woche wurde sie geliefert – meine Special Edition des Docu Magazines. Das Docu Magazine ist ein kleiner unabhängiger Verlag aus Finnland.
Unter dem. Motto „print is not dead“ arbeitet der Verlag mit Fotografen auf der ganzen Welt zusammen und druckt neben den Special Editions auch Standardwerke mit mehreren Fotografen. Zudem organisiert der Verlag jährliche Ausstellungen.

Gewählt habe ich 20 Portraits aus Indien. Ich mag Gesichter, die Geschichten erzählen. In Indien habe ich oft das Gefühl, dass es ganz besondere Gesichter sind, die mir begegnen. Manche mit leerem Blick, resigniert schauend – andere voller Lebensfreude und Neugier. Wenn ich von jemandem ein Portrait mache, gebe ich oft keine Anweisungen, wo der Mensch hinschauen soll, wie er schauen soll oder was er tut. Die ersten Fotos sind komplett ungestellt und zeigen mir oft, wie die Person sich fühlt. Viele der Fotos im Magazin sind eben solche – natürlich, authentisch und nicht inszeniert.

Arrived this week – my special edition of Docu magazine. Docu Magazine is a small, independent publishing house from Finland.
Under the claim “print is not dead,” the publisher collaborates with photographers worldwide and, in addition to special editions, also publishes standard works featuring multiple photographers. Furthermore, they organize annual exhibitions.

I selected 20 portraits from India. I like faces that tell stories. In India, I often feel that the faces I encounter are truly special. Some have blank, resigned expressions – others are full of joy and curiosity. When I take someone’s portrait, I often don’t give them any instructions about where to look, how to look, or what to do. The first photos are completely without instructions and often show me how the person feels. Many of the photos in the magazine are just like that – natural, authentic, and unstaged.
