Mein Foto der Woche entstand mit Nic und Thomas und ich wollte gerne ausprobieren, wie gut die Leica Q2 monochrom bei wenig Licht arbeitet. Zudem wolle ich gerne ausprobieren, wie man die Fotos mehr wie aus einem Film aussehen lassen kann.

Ohne mich gut mit Filmen und Filmlooks auszukennen, empfinde ich eine gewisse Tiefe, Licht von hinten und Unschärfen im Bild hilfreich. Auch das Vermeiden von Posen und Blicken in die Kamera trägt dazu bei, eine beobachtende Rolle einzunehmen. Gleichzeitig hilft es aber auch, nah genug dran zu sein an den Models, um Gefühle zu vermitteln.

Da standen wir also, mit fertiger Idee, einem Plan und wenig Ahnung. Und so haben wir gesagt, wir probieren das einfach, ihr seid verliebt, auf dem Weg nach Hause und die Leute drum rum habt ihr vergessen. So wie früher.

Leichter gesagt als getan, denn natürlich kann sich auch in einer toleranten Stadt jemand daran stören, wenn zwei Männer (oder Frauen) sich an die Hand nehmen oder küssen. Aber dank der späteren Stunde waren wenige Menschen unterwegs.

Vielen Dank an meine beiden Freunde fürs modeln und mitmachen. Ich finde, wir haben tolle Fotos hinbekommen.

My photo of the week was taken with Nic and Thomas, and I wanted to test how well the Leica Q2 monochrome performs in low light. I also wanted to experiment with making the photos look more like they were taken out of a movie.

While I’m not an expert on film and film aesthetics, I find a certain depth of field, backlighting, and blurred parts in the image helpful. Avoiding posing and looking directly at the camera also contributes to adopting an observational perspective. At the same time, being close enough to the models to convey emotions is needed, too.

So there we were, with an idea, a plan, and very little knowledge. And so we said, let’s just try it, you’re in love, on your way home, and you’ve forgotten about everyone around you. Just like back in the old days.

Easier said than done, because of course even in a tolerant city someone might take offense if two men (or women) hold hands or kiss. But thanks to the late hour, there were few people around.
